Sri Dalada Maligawa or Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is one of the main temples located in Sri lanka. The temple is really beautiful and situated at the heart of the Kandy city. It’s located on the bank of the Kandy lake hence you can’t miss it while navigating. You should try to visit the place on a weekend and during the ceremony time in the morning. There are three such ceremonies, one early in the morning, second one around 10.00 am and the last one in the evening at 6.30pm. The place gets crowded as many people gather to give their offerings to the temple. The sound of the drums and the flutes create a surreal environment and has to be experienced once.
The new shrine which is located within the campus provides a pictorial journey of how the temple came to become what it is today. Also there is a museum spread on two floors. It gives great insight on the temple and takes you on a historic journey with exhibits and photographs.
If You are Planning to visit during August you can attend to Esala Perahara also known as Festival of The Tooth.
